Our History
Southern Vermont AHEC opened its doors to serve Bennington, Rutland, Windham, and Windsor Counties.
Southern Vermont AHEC was awarded a $29,000 grant from the Vermont Organization of Nurse Leaders to design a curriculum to mentor novice nurses in acute care settings in partnership with several schools of nursing in Vermont and New Hampshire. The project will be piloted at Mount Ascutney Hospital.
SVAHEC was also awarded $14,000 in grants to include projects ranging from parenting education to consumer health information access.

Mental health access website created by SVAHEC as a free web-based resource and referral directory designed to link primary health practitioners with mental health professionals best suited to meet their patient’s needs.

First Advanced MedQuest Program at Southern Vermont College (Bennington) with 15 students. First-year with two MedQuest Programs (9th and 10th grades only) 7/11/15 at SVT College with SVMC. 7/25-30 at College of St. Joseph (Rutland) with RRMC. 39 students from 4 counties.

5th Annual SVAHEC interdisciplinary conference held at Killington focusing on geriatric healthcare. HRSA awards Precision Valley Physical Activity and Nutrition Consortium to increase physical activity and nutrition education opportunities for middle school youth and families. SVTAHEC will be fiscal agent for the grant. The 30+5 project (30 minutes of exercise and 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily) was awarded $149,717 for the first year of funding ($300,000 for 3 years). Middle School nurses in Windsor and Springfield will have access to registered dieticians.
