October is Health Careers Awareness Month in Vermont

As we wind down Health Careers Awareness Month in Vermont, we wanted to spotlight careers in behavioral health, namely substance misuse prevention.
Prevention Works VT has brought a great deal of awareness to this much needed profession and here is what their Director of Programs, Beth Shrader had to say about building this particular health workforce occupation and their connection to Southern Vermont AHEC.
“A career in prevention is not often included in lists of health career choices. Working in the substance misuse prevention field is a great option for anyone interested in community building, education and providing support to help Vermonters to achieve health and wellness. Prevention utilizes an upstream approach which can appeal to anyone pursuing a career in public health. At Prevention Works! VT we have had connections with Southern Vermont AHEC‘s CSHIP Program interns who have been introduced to a career in substance misuse prevention.”
