In celebration of Health Careers Awareness Month in Vermont, Dr. Kim E. Kurak, DO, Family Medicine Specialist with Community Health Centers of the Rutland Region in Brandon, VT explains why she chose a career in medicine and how Southern Vermont AHEC supported her in this journey.
“A career as a Family Physician is an amazing avenue to educate and support others to lead a healthier life while also treating illness. I truly enjoy the ability to help my patients by working with them towards better health. Southern Vermont AHEC has provided excellent continuing education, loan repayment and amazing health pre-professions programs that support building a sustainable primary care workforce in Vermont.”
MedQuest Program Student Showcase
Our MedQuest Program at Springfield Hospital, Inc. – VT capped off with a student showcase. Family, friends, and hospital luminaries like were present to review the student’s poster projects, which told their personal stories of who they are and the health career pathway they want to pursue.
CSHIP 2022
Southern Vermont AHEC’s College Student Internship Program (C-SHIP) is in full swing. This summer we have matched a number of students interested in health careers with paid internships with organizations focused on rural and public health. We’d like to highlight Sarah Abbott, a Bates College graduate, who is currently doing her CSHIP program with RCFC – Rutland County Free Clinic.
MedQuest 2022 is Up and Running!
MedQuest 2.0 has begun at Rutland Regional Medical Center Students and The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont Mentors were welcomed by President and CEO Claudio Fort. We are off and running.
Berta Enright is our new Community Health Worker (CHW) Coordinator for southern Vermont
Our Southern Vermont AHEC team continues to expand. We want to extend a hearty welcome to our newest member, Roberta (Berta) Enright, BA, MA, MS, as our Community Health Worker (CHW) Coordinator for southern Vermont. Berta will be working directly with SVTAHEC CHW Project Director Katina Cummings in supporting the building of a community health worker workforce to improve people’s health and provide equitable care across Vermont.
