Open your Home

to a medical student on rotation.

Southern Vermont Area Health Education Center (SVTAHEC) is looking for hosts who can open their home and help a young person during his/her education in rural medicine.

Each year medical students from the University

of Vermont are assigned to the southern Vermont region to do a two-to five-week rotation with a local physician, rural clinic, or hospital. They are away from their own homes, and too far for a daily commute back to Burlington.

Student Needs

private bedroom
access to a kitchen
WIFI connection
space to park

Students have their own transportation. SVTAHEC handles the initial contact. We then connect you with the student to provide directions and other special instructions that you may have.

A small stipend for the host is available.

SVTAHEC works in close partnership with the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont, and the UVM Medical Center Residency Programs.

Funding is provided by the University of Vermont Medical Center, Vermont’s community hospitals, and the State of Vermont.
